Herb Buwalda joined the Horizons team having served 43 years in pastoral ministry as a United Methodist Church Elder followed by several years of church consulting ministry. Herb’s pastoral ministry included serving for 15 years as Lead Pastor of Clay United Methodist Church, South Bend, Indiana. During his tenure at Clay UMC, Herb witnessed the expansion of membership, worship, and mission—including the construction of a second ministry campus. Herb also served as a ministry coach and consultant for the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Herb brings with him extensive proficiency serving churches of all sizes through capital and annual stewardship campaigns. His pastoral nature is perfectly suited to encourage pastors and laypeople through the campaign process with wisdom and grace. Those who are fortunate to work with Herb will immediately recognize his heart for ministry and passion for partnering with God to accomplish God-sized goals.
Herb enjoys any activity on a lake or outdoors including fishing, hiking, and simply appreciating nature. A fan of all Detroit athletic teams, Herb has experienced his share of disappointment but remains faithful! Herb and his wife, LeeAnne have two grown daughters, one son-in-law, and two grandchildren.
